ITBS Testing This Week

Tomorrow morning we will begin ITBS testing which will continue throughout the week. Before coming to school Monday, be sure you:

  • had a good night’s sleep Sunday night
  • had a hearty and healthy breakfast Monday morning
  • bring an extra snack – a healthy one!
  • have at least two (2) number 2 pencils (if you’re using a mechanical pencil, be sure to check the type of lead)
  • bring a good, quality eraser – one that won’t leave a lot of smudges
  • bring a silent reading book, sudoku or crossword puzzles,
a coloring book…anything to do if you finish tests early. I will have coloring pages and some puzzles available for those who want them.

I also want to let you know in advance that we will not have a vocabulary test this week. I think you’ll have taken enough tests by the time Friday rolls around. And while I won’t be giving you much in the way of homework this week, I do expect all of my seventh graders to do plenty of reading at home!

Have you logged in your books yet?

Your Reading Reminder

Just a quick reminder that our Summer Read-Off for middle school ends Tuesday at 8:00 A.M. Be sure to log in all the books you’ve read before then. I’ve just finished updating the pages that have been submitted in the last week or so. And let me just say…I’m loving my new seventh grade class before I’ve even met ya!!! Check out the current totals here:

Summer Read-Off

Do you have a favorite book that you read over the summer? Why don’t you tell us about it! Leave a comment here telling us the name of the book (and author’s name if you know it), a little about it (without giving away the ending), and what you really loved about the book.

If you’ve never left a comment on a blog before, simply click on “Leave a comment” below the title of this post. You’ll need to enter your name and email address, but you don’t need to add anything for “Website.” If you are a student, please only use your first name and last initial. You can use your school email address or a personal address.

I’m looking forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday!

Here We Go!

Time to get this thing started! While my students are sleeping in this morning, I am getting myself ready to go back to school for the first time after a lovely summer vacation. This may come as a shock to my students and students everywhere, but I’m not entirely happy about it either. I love summer break! I love being able to sleep in, to lounge about all day reading a good book, to visit my local bookstore or library and just wander about aimlessly.

But I also love my students. And so I will return to work today with a smile on my face because I know that next week at this time this will be you:

Only with a lot less fur, I hope!

Ok, I’m kidding! But I am looking forward to seeing each and every one of my students next week, even if you’re not looking forward to it! We are going to have an amazing year…I guarantee it!!

Our school theme this year is Imagination. So, before you return next week, I want you each to imagine a wonderful year ahead of you and then make it happen! Our motto in Seventh Grade this year will be:

First you dream it, then you create it!

Be thinking about that over the next week…there will be a test on the first day of school. 🙂

[Yes, I’m kidding. There won’t be a test on the first day of school!]

Are You Ready?

Welcome to Camp Caritas!

Welcome to Camp Caritas!

Are you packed? Have you checked your list? Have you checked it again? Do you have your dress uniform washed and pressed and ready for mass Monday morning? 😉

Kidding!

If you have questions over the weekend, please email me. I’ll check in frequently in between getting myself packed and giving George extra scritches and smooches. Biggest question for me as I get myself ready: What book shall I bring?! I’m leaning toward The Magician by Michael Scott. Any other suggestions?

If you’re looking for a good book to read, check out the Books! page on this blog. I’m adding reading lists for all levels to that page as I find them. You’ll also find two websites at the bottom of the page that let you type in the name of a book you really liked and they will offer you a list of book suggestions you might like. Pretty cool!

What’s even MORE cool is that I noticed some of you have started talking about your favorite books on your blogs! I LOVE IT!!!!!!! You’ve made this teacher very happy!

Another Short Week

We have a short but busy week ahead of us. Well, at least it will be short for the students. Teachers will be at our diocesan Staff Development Day on Friday. My seventh graders will want to be prepared for:

  • Spelling Test #3 on Wednesday
  • DOL Quiz #4 on Thursday
  • Vocab Test – Unit Two on Thursday
  • Vocab Spelling Test on Thursday

Parents, if you haven’t already done so, please fill out and return your student’s permission slip for Loaves and Fishes. Also, please be sure to fill out my Back to School Google form which you can find here: Netvibes.

Calendar Reminders

Please remember to give your parents the bright pink reminder form you received today. If you can’t find that fluorescent piece of paper in the bottom of your backpack, here’s what it says:

Tonight is Back to School Night for Grades K-8. Meet in the church at 7:00.

Tomorrow, Thursday 3 Sept: Dress Uniform for school pictures. Smile purdy!

Friday, 4 Sept: Dress Uniform. We’ll be leaving the classroom at 7:55 to walk over to mass. Please be prompt with your shirts tucked in and sleeves rolled down.

I probably don’t have to remind you that Friday is a minimum day! Do I?
